Emily Poel
licensed trainer

For most of my life I’ve been curious about movement, bodies, how people learn and develop, and what motivates us in our lives. I danced for many years throughout my childhood and later professionally, and in college I studied the subjects of dance performance and history in an attempt to understand more about people, movement, history, and culture.

I’m originally from Michigan and have been living in Berlin since 2001. For some years I worked in the contemporary dance and theater scene in Berlin, trying to find a mixture of creative and intellectual work that was satisfying for me. After a dance injury I became a client of the Grinberg Method, and I was strongly impressed by the way my practitioner worked with me and with how quickly my body recovered. Soon after that I decided to start the professional studies, joining the first class that was offered in Berlin in 2004. I realized I’d found exactly the mixture I was looking for in the Grinberg Method, and since then I’ve been working non-stop as a practitioner and, since 2009, as a trainer.

My interest in movement and curiosity about how people live and make choices in their lives continues to evolve and grow. I see the way many people have forgotten that they have the option to move and think freely, and that this lack of movement in life causes suffering. Our ability to break free from this suffering and challenge the fixed habits, patterns and beliefs that we normally hold, and to become more physically strong and well in the process, is what constantly motivates me.

Teaching people to approach fear and pain confidently and individually, with attention, humor, and a wish to learn, and seeing them enlarge their options in life is what I most enjoy in this work. As a trainer I would like to give many people the chance to discover their own individual abilities to move and to learn, and out of this, to heal and to perceive options in life they didn’t see before.

Along with regular work with clients in learning and recovery processes, the activities I currently offer are weekly classes in Stopping Movement, classes in Improving Concentration and Learning Abilities, as well as client evenings, lectures, and workshops.
